چکیده

In this paper we show a new technique, based on the elastic theory, to efficiently produce an estimate of threedimensional surface displacement maps by integrating sparse Global Position System (GPS) measurements of deformations and Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) maps of movements of the Earth’s surface. We propose a linear matrix equation which accounts for both GPS and DInSAR data whose solution provides simultaneously the strain tensor, the displacement field and the rigid body rotation tensor throughout the entire investigated area. The mentioned linear matrix equation is solved by using the Weighted Least Square (WLS) method thus assuring both numerical robustness and high computation efficiency. The approach is named SISTEM as an acronym of Simultaneous and Integrated Strain Tensor Estimation from geodetic and satellite deformation Measurements. A real case study with GPS and DInSAR measurements carried out on Mt. Etna in the period 2003-2004 is reported.

Decomposing DInSAR Time-Series into 3-D in Combination with GPS in the Case of Low Strain Rates: An Application to the Hyblean Plateau, Sicily, Italy

Differential Interferometric SAR (DInSAR) time-series techniques can be used to derive surface displacement rates with accuracies of 1 mm/year, by measuring the one-dimensional distance change between a satellite and the surface over time. However, the slanted direction of the measurements complicates interpretation of the signal, especially in regions that are subject to multiple deformation p...

Mapping Two-Dimensional Deformation Field Time-Series of Large Slope by Coupling DInSAR-SBAS with MAI-SBAS

Mapping deformation field time-series, including vertical and horizontal motions, is vital for landslide monitoring and slope safety assessment. However, the conventional differential synthetic aperture radar interferometry (DInSAR) technique can only detect the displacement component in the satellite-to-ground direction, i.e., line-of-sight (LOS) direction displacement. To overcome this constr...

Application of DInSAR-GPS optimization for derivation of three-dimensional surface motion of the southern California region along the San Andreas fault

We present here a methodology that allows the combination of GPS and Differential InSAR data for the calculation of continuous three-dimensional (3D) high-resolution velocity maps with corresponding errors. It is based on analytic minimization of the Gibbs energy function, which is possible in the case when neighborhood pixels of the velocity maps are considered independent. By joining scalar D...

A Review of the Three-dimensional Field Displacement Retrieval Methods Using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Observations (InSAR) With Emphasis on the Precision of Each of these Methods

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology provides a useful tool for quantitatively measuring the deformation of the earth, influenced by natural factors (earthquake, subsidence, and landslide) and human factors (construction of structures, drilling, and the overexploitation of underground water aquifers). In this context, time-series analysis of radar images allows the monito...
